Strong Engineering Specification Leads to Sale

The MEP and Fire Protection Engineer on the project was Henderson Engineering of Lenexa, KS.  According to Eric Taylor of HEI, the Ruskin airflow measuring dampers played a key role in the design of the indoor comfort systems. “The Ruskin IAQ50X and CDRAMS dampers are both used in the Arena bowl distribution ductwork,” stated Eric.  IAQ50X dampers are used in branch ductwork serving different zones within the bowl including the upper and middle sections of the bowl.  The CDRAMS dampers are used on individual diffuser’s branch ductwork for control of airflow to each device. These dampers are controlled by the building automation system based on space temperature demands similar to a VAV box without reheat.”

Commenting on the purpose of utilizing Ruskin’s low leak control dampers with integral airflow measuring stations, Eric confirmed, “These products were used for three reasons.

First, the integral airflow station simplifies the balancing procedure, and ensures that the proper amount of conditioned air as designed, and as needed for space conditioning, is provided.

Secondly, the integral control damper allows for reduction in airflow during non-peak conditioning periods, which decreases fan and thermal conditioning energy.  This will help the project achieve LEED points for Energy Performance.

Third, these dampers can be used to isolate areas within the bowl not being used during non-full house events to provide additional energy savings by reducing the conditioning of non-occupied areas within the bowl.”

The HEI mechanical design team also included Dave Peterson and Ryan Starkovich.   They worked closely with our Ruskin representative here in the Kansas City area, Triangle Sales, during design and construction to determine the proper installation and control of these dampers for our circumstances.  Eric went on to say, “Triangle Sales and specifically Greg Paulsen provided invaluable information and engineering support in order for HEI to be successful with the HVAC design for this project; not only with the Ruskin line, but with several other lines that Triangle Sales represents.”
